Zig Zag: A timeless icon.

Produced in Vietnam, where each piece is finished by hand using a traditional lacquer technique.

Each stool receives twelve layers of lacquer, applied and sanded one by one. The process takes around 90 days, resulting in a deep, glossy finish with a rich sense of depth.

The blue polo shirt is the daily uniform worn by our factory workers. You may also spot a nón lá, the traditional Vietnamese conical hat, worn proudly by the workers.

Preparing the Base
Every Zig Zag begins with a carefully prepared surface. The body is shaped, levelled and cleaned to create the foundation for its signature lacquer finish.
Building the Layers
The lacquer is applied by hand, one thin layer at a time. Each layer is given time to dry before the next is applied, gradually building the depth of the finish.
Sanding by Hand
Hand-sanding is a crucial part of the process. Each surface is checked by eye and by touch, with just the right amount of sanding needed to prepare it for the next layer.
Lacquer, Sand, Repeat
After each layer dries, the surface is carefully hand-sanded before the next coat is applied. This process is repeated 12 times, creating an exceptionally smooth and refined surface.
Water Sanding & Polishing
Once all 12 layers are complete, the surface is water-sanded and polished by hand. These final stages bring out the depth, smoothness and characteristic sheen of the lacquer.
The Final Inspection
Before leaving the factory, every Zig Zag is inspected by hand. The surface, curves and edges are carefully checked to ensure the finish is smooth, even and free from visible imperfections.
